Home safety week

When the Cubs arrived tonight they discovered there was a big problem at the school hall. There was an unknown issue, and the Cubs needed to use their detective skills to work out what was going on. They examined the visual clues and interviewed the leaders.

They discovered the school boiler hadn’t been serviced, someone had turned the gas heater up full, two leaders were feeling dizzy and nauseous, and Bagheera had forgotten to change the batteries in the carbon monoxide alarm.

Nearly all the sixes worked out that we had a carbon monoxide leak!

Luckily, Firefighter Chris was on hand to talk to us about what we should do. Thank you Chris for answering so many questions about carbon monoxide, fires, dogs, and all the other random questions!

Our second activity of the evening was to learn a game played by Cubs in Catalonia. This was a lot of fun as Cubs needed to keep a straight face – which was pretty impossible for this bunch of gigglers!

Finally, the greatly anticipated intruder alarm challenge! Inspector Tim talked to us about all the different ways we might protect our homes from intruders.

We created our own motion sensor alarm system using string and bells. The Cubs then acted as intruders to try and pass through the course without detection.
